Final stages of excavation
The final rites of excavation are continuing. In the northern half of the trench the final 10cm spit has been removed and the last remaining stakeholes of the round house wall have been identified and recorded.
The same process is underway in the south of the trench. A 10cm spit is being taken down to the yellow sandy subsoils and the last vestiges of the east to west oriented stoney bank are being removed. As last week very few artefacts are being found and only a small number of features are being identified. Next week we hope to start backfilling the trench and reconstructing the stone features in the style they were originally built. This will allow easier recognition of the features by walkers and visitors in the future.
