Only 50 metres to the west of trench 3, Graham and Anne-Marie, are supervising a trench placed to take in the northern boundary of the large rectangular field and 2 possible sub-circular building platforms lying adjacent.
|Trench 4 prior to deturfing||Initial cleaning after the removal of the heather and peat|
After cleaning away the peat layer the boundary appears to comprise a low stone and earth bank augmented in places with clearance cairns. The putative building platforms seem to have vanished to be replaced with small, level areas defined by earthfast boulders. It shows the difficulty in identifying occupation sites on heather-dominated moorland.
